Cool new tool for Ramen lovers!

Ahhhh, Ramen.  We all know it.  You tend to either love it or hate it.  A neat, tidy little package of cheap eats.  College student staple, quick food fix, savior of time-starved mothers everywhere.  And did I mention that it’s so cheap as to almost be a free meal.  A blank canvas for food doctor-uppers.  And yet, despite all that ramen has done for all of us over the years it goes widely unappreciated.  Well, now all that has changed with a new gadget created specifically for ramen eaters.  It’s the ramen noodle spoon & fork.  Take a look:

ramen spoon forkThis sleek new upgrade on the old plastic spork was created by ramen restaurant owner Masami Takahashi to enhance your ramen eating experience.  Looks pretty sleek to me.  If you’re ready to try one for yourself and take your  ramen slurping to the next level, then head on over to Unicahome and get one for yourself.  And don’t forget to stock up on your ramen!

Pucker up! Try Lip tattoo’s for new fashion fun!

So, we humans do like our individuality don’t we?  I’m all for outrageous forms of self expression, and nowadays you can express your personal sense of style on everything from your fingernails to your food, but today I’ve come across a trend that I haven’t seen before that lets you put a unique stamp on your lips as well.  They’re called Violent lips, created by a company by the same name, and they’re temporary lip tattoos that come in a huge, and I do mean huge, array of styles & colors.  Take a look:

Celebrate Valentines Day – Last minute laughs & ideas

Ahh, the day of love has finally arrived!  Got your dinner reservations all set and your presents wrapped?  Whether you’re ready to go, or need a bit of last minute inspiration, sit back and enjoy this ode to Valentines day!

VALENTINES DAY GONE WRONG

A few tidbits to remind you that it could always be worse!

“When I was in high school, this guy took me out to a nice restaurant. When we went to pay, he had no cash and was planning on writing a check. They did not take personal checks. He didn’t have a debit card and I didn’t have money on me. They ended up taking his check since it was all we had — we were both embarrassed! Then we walked out to his truck to find that he had locked his keys inside. And it was raining! He had to climb up on the bed of his truck, open that little window in the back, crawl through, and unlock my door.” — Meg00

“My husband (then boyfriend) was working a part-time job as a pizza-delivery guy, and he requested Valentine’s Day off because we had reservations at a romantic Italian restaurant. We made these reservations six weeks in advance! So, of course, my husband’s manager called him on February 14 and asked him to come into work. My husband explained that he already had plans, but the manager cut in and said, ‘Well, I called the restaurant and cancelled your reservations, so that shouldn’t be a problem anymore.’ We were absolutely horrified! My husband didn’t end up quitting the job (at that time) because he really needed the money. So that Valentine’s Day he delivered pizzas while I sat home by myself.”

FUN VALENTINES ACTIVITIES

A few ideas for things to do with your sweetie on Valentines day!

Create a VIP Club at home
Who needs a bar to dance? Load your iPod with sexy tunes, from Kanye to Katy Perry, and hook it up to the speakers in your pad. Bonus points for hanging a disco ball (find these cheap at Walmart, Target, or your local party store) to get a club-like vibe.

Create a Cozy Retreat
We all made blanket forts when we were kids — now re-create it with a sexy twist. Line the floor of your living room with mountains of pillows and watch a sexy flick together.

Hidden Boxes: There’s another cheap way of bringing a smile to your sweetheart’s face. You can have small boxes, packed with his/her favourite chocolates with tiny gifts in them. You can also arrange a maze or hide these boxes for him/her to find and get surprised, every time a box is found and opened.

Cool Tool for home bakers – Butterbell Crocks

One of my pet peeves when I’m baking at home is when I get everything all set up and ready to go, roll up my sleeves, clear the kitchen, and then I have to put the whole operation on pause because I don’t have any stinkin’ room temperature butter.  Those mean recipe people are adamant that the butter be room temperature, not melted which is what always happens when I try to microwave it a bit.  So now I’ve got to wait.  Well, no more my friends.  Check out these cute little crocks from Butterbellbutter crock.  These crocks fit an entire stick of butter inside, and they keep your butter not only wonderfully room temp, but fresh as well without refrigerating!  The crocks come in 8 retro colors, my fav being the red because it’s all matchy matchy with my kitchen.  And for all of you well prepared bakers out there who are scorning my preparation skills, it’s okay you can still get one too – they look cool and you never know when  you’ll need some hot buttered toast!  Check them out over at Butterbell!

Pan-Roasted Salmon-and-Bread Salad

Okay, I have tried, and I have tried, but unless I drench a salad with tons of creamy dressing and fill it up with meat, I just don’t enjoy it.  If I do drench it with dressing and meat, that defeats the purpose of trying to eat healthier, and I may as well be eating pizza like I want to.  But now I’ve come across a salad that is both healthy (note the salmon - very good for you!) and tastes good too!  Check it out:

Spinach and Cheese Stuffed Shells

What could be better than Monday morning italian?  Monday is pasta day around my house – don’t ask me why, I don’t usually have certain types of meals on certain days, but for a long time I just happened to eat some type of pasta for dinner on Monday night, and then I decided to make it into a habit and here we are!  Today I’m going to try these stuffed shells.  They work perfectly because they fit my Monday pasta requirement and my new vegetable with every dinner requirement!  Give them a try and see if they’re as good as they look.

Chicken with Lemony Egg Noodles and Peas

Okay, I must confess – I don’t like to eat my veggies.  I do try, but it’s difficult.  Sooo, I’ve been trying to purchase groceries that would make me more likely to eat veggies instead of processed junk.  In honor of this change, I’d like to share this chicken and noodles and peas (veggie alert!) recipe with you, which for me kills 2 birds with one stone.  I get in a serving or so of vegetables, and I get to use up some of the rotisserie chicken I bought to help me eat more salads! (One can only eat so much rotisserrie chicken and salads ya know.)  So, if this recipe looks good to you guys too, give it a try and tell me what you think!

Louisville Hot Brown

Perhaps I’ve mentioned to you guys a time or two  that I’m a little ole yankee gal living in the south these days.  This being the case, I feel obligated to try all of the great southern recipes that I come across in order to feel closer to my new friends and neighbors (sounds better than just saying I’m greedy and love food doesn’t it?)  So, I’ve been hearing a lot about the ‘Louisville Hot Brown’ sandwich and it sounds like my type of party.  It’s hard to go wrong with any recipe involving bread, meat, and gravy so try this one out and you won’t go wrong.  Look at that picture – yummmmmm!!
