Solar powered bikini keeps you jamming all day at the beach!

Perhaps you’ve been here before:  you’re enjoying a marvelous day at the beach, relaxing, swimming, a little fun in the sun.  Then, right in the middle of this sun splashed paradise – your MP3 player runs out of juice!  Oh no, what’s a gal to do?  Well, next time you can be prepared with a solar powered bikini!  Take a look:

I’ll take marinara with my pasta…shirt!

I love looking at edible fashion.  It never ceases to amaze me that today’s designers are creating such outrageous food couture!  Today I came across an entire outfit made with various types of pasta, and just had to share.  Take a look:

pasta suitNow isn’t that creative?  This edible work of art was the brainchild of photographer Ted Sabarese and his friend Ami Goodheart.  Created from several different types of pasta, they worked with a group of designers on this design, called “Hunger Pains”.  I can see why, since I’m getting hungry just looking at this one.  I can make out some extra large ravioli in the design that are calling my name.  This design was made by hand – seems like a bit too much temptation for a pasta loving gal such as myself!  Have you seen some original edible clothing?  Feel free to post your finds so we can take a look!

Looking for some scary eats? How about a severed head cake!

Blood and guts for dessert anyone?  As part of a baking challenge Orlando based baker Paul Joachim created these graphic severed head cakes on spikes.   Take a look:

severed head cakeThey may look gruesome, but have to taste great – each head is created of  3 yummy layers – yellow cake, chocolate cake with caramel rum sauce, and chocolate ganache.  Delicious!  Paul also creates a wide variety of fun wedding and occasion cakes – check out his website to see some of his other outrageous cake creations!

Food as art – who needs paint when you’ve got salami!

Food – we love it and we need it, but it’s also being used more and more frequently in surprising ways.  We’re starting to see clothing, furniture and artwork made out of all types of edibles.  Today I want to share with you a work of art I came across from the talented photographer Carl Warner, based in London.  He creates stunning photographic art from several different food mediums, but this one is my favorite – take a look:

art from salamiBelieve it or not friends, this landscape image was created entirely from food.  Cured meat certainly has it’s uses, but until now I wouldn’t have considered sculpting materials to be one of them!  This piece is called “Salami River”, and the river in this scene is created from Parma ham, and studded with ‘rocks’ made from chiabatta bread.  He created the fir trees from more Parma ham and pancetta (one of my personal faves!) wrapped around breadsticks, and look at that log cabin – breadsticks with a pepperoni roof!   There are so many details in the setting, you can look at it forever and always find something new to see!  If you’d like to take a look at more of Carl’s work, or purchase prints for  yourself, take a look at his website, but make sure you’re not in a rush – you’ll want lots of time to examine his unique works of art!

Have your wedding cake, and eat it too!

Ahhh, edible clothing.  If you could, would you wear a piece of apparel made out of food?  I’m all for killing two birds with one stone, but I think I’d draw the line when it came to my wedding dress.   But perhaps if my husband was renowned pastry chef  Valentyn Shtefano, I’d change my mind.  Take a look at this food based work of art:

cream puff wedding dressPretty dress right?  It makes her look like a princess, but instead of the traditional satin and lace, this culinary confection is created from  croquembouche. (Or cream puffs if you like to keep it simple!)  It took Shtefano 2 months and 1500 cream puffs to finish his masterpiece, but I’d say the final effort was worth it!  Not bad to assemble 20 pounds worth of sugary snacks!  Have you seen any outrageous clothing made out of food?  If so come on back and let us know about your finds!

Interested in a Nike Air Max…snack?

I love to see outrageous art created from food and other unusual materials.  When I came across this creation from Swedish designer Olle Hemmendorff I knew I had to share.  Hemmendorff has created an edible Nike Air Max sneaker out of burgers and buns!  Take a look:

Nike airmax sneaker burgerPretty cool, huh?  This piece was created for an exhibition, using nothing but burger patties, a sesame baguette, pickles, tomatoes and cheese.  Olle is a talented artist who works in a lot more mediums than food, so if you’d like to see more of his work, head over to his website and see what else he’s up to!
