No time to bring out the grill? Try a cheeseburger in a can!

You may have noticed that I often like to point out some of the quirkier items in food, fashion & business, so I’m sure you won’t be surprised by todays funny find.  Sometimes finding opportunities to get everything done is just not possible in our busy day, so I’d like to help out with those times when you just don’t have a spare moment to cook a good dinner, but you need a little something to get you through the rest of the day.  No need to break out that heavy grill and worry about charcoal and lighter fluid.  Just head over to the pantry and grab a cheeseburger in a can!  Take a look:

canned cheeseburgerNow it just doesn’t get much easier than that does it?  All you need is your trusty can opener, and a pot of boiling water!  This quick fix was created by the German company  Trekking Mahlzeiten for busy hikers on the go.  Who can beat a boil & eat meal?  Sure, the label is in German, so we don’t know what dire warnings we may be missing but hey, if you’re going to eat a boiled cheeseburger in a can you probably don’t care too much anyway right?  At least they told us what it was :) Happy snacking!

Like Spam? Have it your way at Burger King!

Any Spam lovers out there?  Spam seems to be one of those things that you either absolutely love, or absolutely hate.  Sorry to say that I’m firmly planted on the side of the haters.  I can still recall the one time I was fooled into sampling Spam.  A good friend offered me a delicious fried ham sandwich, oozing mayo and grease only to find out that, in my exact words ‘This ain’t no damn ham sandwich!’  Our friendship has never recovered from this bit of trickery.  But I digress.  For those of you who are lovers of canned ham (and there are multitudes) you may be pleased to note that Burger King is all set to debut it’s new Spam Burger called the ‘BK Shot’.   Take a peek:

spam burgerInteresting, eh?  Intended mainly for the female market, the Spam sandwich will also be offered in savory flavors such as lemon pepper and as a BLT.  The bad news – the sandwich is being debuted in Japan, so it’s a heck of a commute if you have to have one of these right away.  But the good news is that if it’s as popular as anticipated you may see it in your local BK one day soon.  Spam lovers, keep your fingers crossed!

A new take on an old classic – pizza flavored silkworms!

I love food, as anyone who reads this blog regularly can already tell by the amount of food themed posts around here.  One of my all time go to favorites is pizza – in all it’s cheesy, greasy glory.  I’ll eat it almost any way you can make it, but even I have to admit that sometimes it gets a little tired.  But hold on – I hear that there’s a another way for me to get my pizza fix in a new and unique way – pizza flavored silkworm pupae!

pizza flavored silkwormsWell would ya look at that!  All packaged up nice and safe in a vacuum sealed pouch to keep them fresh.  And, they’re farm raised too!  They wash them, and cook them with delicious thai herbs (doesn’t sound exactly pizza-like to me, but hey, who am I to argue?) Hmm, I wonder if these would be like pizza flavored cheetos?  Or you could use them as croutons.  I think I’ll let one of you guys try it out and give me your opinion.  Any taste testing volunteers out there?  If you want to pick up a packet for yourself, head on over to The Random Shop – it’ll only cost you about 11 bucks.  Come back and tell me what you think!

West Virginia’s Roadkill cookoff – family fun or freaky?

Hey all, looking for something a bit off the beaten path to do with the kids this summer?  Don’t be too hasty to run off to your usual vacation destinations.  Why do Disney, when you can attend West Virginia’s Annual Roadkill cookoff! (Oh yeah, it’s a part of their Annual Harvest Festival, but that’s not the important part!)

roadkill stewOh yes, my friends.  You too can be a part of this historic tradition which has been going on for 20 years now!  Held in the town of Marlinton, W. Virginia the Roadkill cookoff features recipes created from, shall we say ‘alternative protein’, including snake, possum, squirrel, frog, and even groundhog!  Yes, I said groundhog folks!  The cash prizes have been awarded to wonderful recipes such as the Armadillo, roadrunner, and hitchhiker tacos,  A Frogmeat Jambalaya, or Smeared hog with groundhog gravy.  Hmmm, interesting!  But if you’re not in the mood for car slaughtered food, there’s also lots of activities such as parades, contests, races, and plenty of food booths.  Interested?  Check with their Chamber of Commerce to get a schedule for this year’s event, and then get started making your travel plans!

Hanging up baby!

So, many of us have probably been in this position before – you need an emergency restroom break, you make a mad dash for the one empty stall before someone beats you to it, get in and lock the door – and there’s nowhere to put the baby!!  Certainly you can’t set him on that filthy floor, and he can’t fit on top of the toilet paper dispenser.  Hmmm, what’s a desparate mom to do?  Never fear….the Babykeeper hanging harness is here!  This crafty little doodad will solve the problem – take a look:

baby hanging harnessWhat do ya think of that?  For a mere $39.99 you too can hang your child up on a bathroom wall while you heed the call of nature.  And this little cutie certainly looks happy to be keeping germ free as well.  Interested?  Head over to Mommysentials.com to get your hanging harness!

I could always use an extra pair of hands, but sheesh!

Okay folks, trust me, I understand the concept of too much to do and too little time – I fall into this category pretty often myself.  I must draw the line however, when it comes to buying an extra pair of hands to hold my newborn baby for me.  Take a look at the Zaky Infant Pillow:

infant pillowWho is that stranger mauling my child while he sleeps? Oh, nevermind, it’s just his cradle pillow.  This amazing product is intended to imitate the comfort and feel of a parents hands.  Originally the pillow was intended to comfort premies in hospitals when their mothers aren’t there, but are now being offered as an ergonomic pillow for infants.  Soooo, if you’re a little short on time these days, head on over to the Pregnancy Store and get one of these little numbers for yourself.  You never know when you may need an extra set of hands!
